Cranston City PlanningPeter Lapolla, Director of Planning, reminds everyone that the Comprehensive Plan public meetings will resume on Wednesday night at 6PM, at the Cranston Senior Center.

This discussion will focus on the second draft of Comprehensive Plan’s Land Use element. Land use, already a touchy subject, has only been made worse by a string of unpopular development proposals throughout Cranston. In light of this, Lapolla is taking a slightly different approach to this week’s meeting. He’s asking all residents who feel there is a misuse of space within the city, to come to the meeting and voice their concerns. A map of the city will be on hand in order to identify problem areas. He will also asking residents to think of solutions to those problems. From an email about the meeting, this what Planning Board is asking of you:

1) identify the specific areas of concern 2) identify the specific problem or problems 3) suggest possible solutions to the problems.

It could be argued that the trust that the residents of Cranston feel for the city and its planning and zoning boards has been under strain. This is an opportunity for the city to regain that trust. It’s an open invitation to lay your concerns on the table, provided you do some thinking about solutions to those concerns.

Visit Cranston’s web site to download a copy of the plan. Because of the informal nature of the discussions, the Planning Board has requested that you email your comments about this and all the Comp Plan elements to the addresses below, even if you voiced those comments at a meeting. Those unable to make the meetings can also submit feedback:

Peter Lapolla, Director
Jason Pezzullo, Principal Planner

The Cranston Senior Center is located at 1070 Cranston Street.
